Trophy Brook Trout Fishing

For the best chances of landing a few trophy size Brook Trout, we recommend trips to one of the major river systems located  200 - 400 air miles north of Thunder Bay.  Rivers such as the Albany, Sutton and Winisk are well known for consistently producing Brook Trout in the 3 - 5 lb range.

Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, there is not a wide choice in full service accommodations. Miminiska Lake and Makokabaten Lake both have American Plan lodge accommodations and are part of the Albany River System. However, for truly exceptional Brook Trout fishing, you need to fish the tributaries of the Albany.

If you want to fish the Winisk or Sutton River systems, you will need to plan on roughing it with tent, camping gear and canoe.

Walleye Fishing

Throw a dart at a map of Northern and Northwestern Ontario and chances are you will hit a lake known for its Walleye fishing. Virtually every fly-in fishing lodge and outpost camp operation in the region offers consistent action on Walleyes in the 2 - 3 lb range with ocassional catches 4 - 5 lb range.

With reduced possession limits across Ontario, tourism operators are promoting catch and release and suggesting guests keep only enough to eat. Live bait is generally not required on most fly-in lakes, with guests experiencing plenty of action using jigs, twister tails, and spoons - mainly all with barbless hooks.

Northern Pike Fishing

Large or small, nothing gets the adrenaline running like engaging in a tug of war with an aggressive Northern Pike .  And when you are using light spinning gear, a 10 - 15 lb test line and a barbless hook,  they can really put your skills to the test. When the battle is over and you were lucky enough to win, take a quick picture to record your victory and then gently release the fish back to the water to fight another day.
